Cold-weather layers

Thermal knits, quilted mid-layers and honest shells — dressed in thirds, shed by the sixth and back on at the turn.

Layering for cold starts

The first tee time of the day asks for three thin layers, not one thick one. Start with a baselayer that sits close and wicks; a mock neck under a polo is the quiet classic for a reason. Over it, a mid-layer you can actually swing in — a half-zip or a light quilted piece with room through the shoulder. The shell comes last and comes off first: it is there for wind and rain, not warmth. Trousers with a brushed or water-repellent finish carry the same logic below the waist. Dress this way and the cold start becomes a scheduling detail rather than a reason to stay home — every piece here is chosen to play that system.
